News Busters

I just came across this site NewsBusters.org. It’s an interesting site for those who want to track down bias in the media. It’s true that there has been liberal bias in the media for decades, but with the arrival of FoxNews the bias now goes both ways. Can anyone really be totally impartial? Probably not….

Palm Centro Battery Issues

I picked up a Palm Centro a couple months ago and it’s a pretty nice unit. I’ve been struggling with the battery though because it seems to only last a few hours even if I’m not using it at all. Turns out, there’s an issue with Sprint’s email application. I uninstalled the application so we’ll…

Amazon Kindle – Not for me

Amazon is selling a product called the Kindle. The idea is that you carry one device and read all your books on it. You download books to the Kindle and read them on one device. It supposedly has a sharp display but somehow I don’t think I’ll ever prefer reading on electronic devices to paper….

I’ll pass on the iPhone – for now

So I picked up an iPhone and used it for a couple days. I must say it’s a huge step in the right direction for mobile computing, but I returned it. I just did not like the lack of external buttons. The soft keyboard just didn’t cut it for me. Here’s my list of pros…

Yahoo Mail is Fantastic!

The new Yahoo Mail is finally out of beta and it is fantastic. There have been so many speed improvements that it is finally a useable email client. I still use Outlook because I can’t always rely on an Internet connection, but the new Yahoo Mail is a nice secondary email client. If you haven’t…

What is the world coming to when we’re so addicted to a gadget that we’re making a music video about it? Here is the BlackBerry CrackBerry music video.

Gmail Encryption a Plus

I just spend about 2 weeks on the road staying in various hotels. All of the hotels now have some kind of Internet access, but you never know how safe it is. When you use products like Yahoo Mail your login info is encrypted, but your entire session is not. Gmail solves this problem and…

Global warming is now climate change???

Isn’t amazing that two years ago when we had devastating hurricanes in the Gulf we heard a lot about “Global Warming.” The media was on the hype bandwagon about how the earth is warming and the waters got so warm that they caused such devastating hurricanes. Well this winter it was so cold all over…

Firefox for Mac is slow

For some reason Firefox for Mac is sluggish while using Gmail and Yahoo Mail. I am now using Camino as my primary Mac browser while still using Firefox on my PC. Hopefully the folks at Mozilla will compile a separate version of Firefox that is faster on the Mac. Until then, I’ll be using Camino.

Firedoodle

This is a very interesting add on for Firefox that allows you to turn any web page into a white board. It also has a place mark feature that allows you to mark your place in web pages. This one only works on Firefox but is a great example at what the next generation of…

Very fast browsing with Camino

I’ve been playing with a new web browser on my Mac this week called Camino. It was recommended to me by cmp101.  Camino is a very, very fast Mozilla-based browser for Mac only. I was a bit skeptical at first, but Camino is seriously growing on me. It doesn’t have all the options and plugins…

Stopping Form Spam

There’s no easy answer. You have a web site with a contact us form, and someone out there uses it for spam. If you’re using Formmail.pl or a similar script you should make sure that the recipient’s email is not passed through http. In other words, hard code the recipient email in the script. I…
